Phool murjhajaate hain.Yaadein nahi.

The Resalist is a small studio run by two sisters in Kolkata. Your wedding varmala, your first photograph, or the one rose you could never throw away. We set it in resin. Same flower. Same day. It just won't fade.

After the wedding

Twelve days is all it takes.

That is how long it takes for the garland you wore at the biggest moment of your life to reach the bin. It is nobody's fault. No one ever told you it could be kept.

Two pink and gold wedding varmalas laid out in a wooden tray at the studio, beside red glass bangles and a green bead necklace, waiting to be dried
A varmala the morning it reaches us
  1. 01

    That night

Aapne ek doosre ko varmala pehnaayi.

Everyone was clapping. The photographer was shouting for one more. Those flowers were around your neck at the moment two people became one.

  2. 03

    Day three

The garland is on top of the cupboard.

The function is over, the guests have gone, and the petals are starting to brown at the edges. You see it every day and think somebody should do something about it.

  3. 12

    Day twelve

    Someone tidied up.

The garland is in the bin. You still have photographs of that night, but nothing from it. The one thing you actually held has gone.

Hum yahin rukte hain.

Every petal from that moment comes to us. It dries for weeks, because that part cannot be hurried. Then it is set, one flower at a time, around your photograph, and the resin holds it there for good.

Not a fresh flower. Not an artificial one. Wahi phool jo us raat aapke gale mein tha.

Who we are

Two sisters, one small table, and a great deal of patience.

18 May 2024. An online resin art course and one table at home, which is where all of this started. The first month was nothing but practice. We lost count of how many pieces we ruined. Then the first order came. Then the second.

Every piece is still made by the two of us. No factory, no staff. That is why it sometimes takes a while, and why it comes out right.

Before the box opens

It looks like a gift before you give it.

Every piece goes into a frosted sleeve, then between shredded paper, then into a kraft box. A gold thank-you sticker on top, our blush card inside. Nothing leaves here in a plain plastic packet.

Varmala frames are always double-boxed, because that particular thing cannot be made twice.

One last thing

There is still something in your house you cannot bring yourself to throw.

A dried rose. A wedding garland. One photograph from childhood. Take a picture of it and send it to us on WhatsApp. We will tell you what it could become.
